Investing in our Schools and Reducing Class Sizes

I supported the largest investment ever made in Oregon's public schools and increased funding by over $1 billion for grades K-12 to enable school districts to avoid further cuts of school days and teacher positions. Thanks to this new funding, schools can also bring back important programs and positions that were lost.

Making Higher Education More Affordable

I know sky-rocketing tuition is putting the dream of a college education out of reach for too many students. Controlling tuition increases at public universities and community colleges across the state is good for our state, nation, students and economy. I also supported new Oregon Promise legislation this year to study whether our state can provide free community college to qualified Oregon high school students in the future and embrace the "pay-it-forward" proposal that would allow students to attend college now and pay the state back over a longer period of time.
