Heller Supports VA Secretary Nominee in Committee Vote

Press Release

Date: July 23, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, United States Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) voted in support of the nominee for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary, Robert A. McDonald. The Committee unanimously supported his nomination.

"After meeting with the nominee and questioning him in Committee, I believe that Robert McDonald is qualified to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. McDonald has assured me and members of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee that he will ensure veterans have access to world-class care as well as tackle the terrible claims backlog. I will hold him to that commitment. Considering our nation's veterans are looking to Mr. McDonald to make changes and restore their faith in the VA system, this is both an extremely important and extremely challenging job. I hope that the Senate will move swiftly to confirm him so he can get to work," Senator Heller said following the vote.

As reports continued to confirm systemic problems within the VA, Senator Heller called for leadership change at the Department.

Following the Committee's approval today, Mr. McDonald's nomination is now ready for a vote on the Senate floor.
