Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy (R-LA) sent a letter to Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson in support of the Louisiana House Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs' request to subpoena federal Veterans Affairs officials to attend a future committee hearing.
Recently, Louisiana veterans shared their concerns and testimonies at a state legislative hearing with Louisiana officials. Despite invitations from the committee, federal VA officials did not attend the meeting.
VA medical centers in Shreveport, Alexandria and New Orleans, have been flagged for review.
Dr. Cassidy released the following statement:
"Louisiana state officials are listening to our veterans' concerns and taking steps to improve the VA and the care that it provides. We need the federal administrators to be a partner in finding solutions to the problems in our VA system. By giving feedback and participating in the state's special committee hearings, we can work together to move towards implementing common sense reforms. We must make sure our veterans have quality healthcare."
Louisiana House Special Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs' Chairman Nick Lorusso released the following statement:
"Louisiana veterans who have been let down by the VA should take comfort in knowing that they have a doctor fighting for their healthcare concerns in Washington. Dr. Bill Cassidy understands the importance of delivering quality care to our veterans on a timely basis. We are grateful for his support in our efforts to fix problems in Louisiana's VA system."
