Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK

WHEREAS, public safety telecommunicators are critical to our state's emergency response and homeland security services, dispatching law enforcement, ambulances, firefighters, and other emergency responders 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

WHEREAS, telecommunications professionals are not as visible as the men and women who arrive at the scene of emergencies, but are a vital part of the first responder team; and

WHEREAS, we depend on public safety telecommunicators from state radio and other public dispatch centers, as well as private sector dispatch units, to assist our families and friends in an emergency by notifying and guiding emergency personnel promptly, clearly and calmly; and

WHEREAS, the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), an organization of nearly 10,000 people from the United States and Canada, is working with organizations statewide to recognize telecommunicators and their crucial role in the protection of life and property; and

NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim April 10-16, 2005, PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
