Hearing of the House Ways and Means Committee - Markup of H.r. 3393, " Student and Family Tax Simplification Act" and H.R. 4935, "Child Tax Credit Improvement Act of 2014"

Hearing

Date: July 10, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

I appreciate that my Republican colleagues on the Committee are prepared to vote against moving forward on these resolutions for the obvious reason that the requested information has already been provided. It is unfortunate that others in the Republican conference, in this case Congressman Steve Stockman, appear unwilling to acknowledge that.

Congressman Stockman's resolutions were introduced June 25, after the White House and the Treasury Department provided all of the communications to and from Lois Lerner between 2009 and 2011.

From the beginning of this investigation there has been rhetoric and accusations from Republicans that are not supported by evidence. They are repeated by others in their conference without any acknowledgement of the facts.

Notably, there was not a single email communication to or from Ms. Lerner and the White House.

I hope that today's message is adequately conveyed to Congressman Stockman and other Congressional Republicans and that further taxpayer dollars are not wasted in pursuit of information that has already been provided.
