Governor Hassan's Statement on Sergeant Ryan Pitts' Medal of Honor Ceremony

Location: Washington, DC

After attending a ceremony at the White House where Sergeant Ryan Pitts of Nashua was awarded the Medal of Honor, Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement:

"One of only nine living service members to receive our country's highest and most prestigious military honor for actions in Iraq or Afghanistan, Sergeant Ryan Pitts is a true American hero who exemplifies the bravery, service and selflessness that define the United States military. The story of his heroic, life-saving actions in the Battle of Wanat is an inspiration to us all, and we are stronger and safer because of his unyielding dedication to his unit and his fellow Americans.

"Since he departed the active-duty Army in 2009, Sergeant Pitts has translated his unique skillset, extraordinary leadership and commitment to teamwork into academic success at UNH-Manchester and into civilian career success in the computer software industry. The entire State of New Hampshire is incredibly proud of him and deeply grateful for his sacrifices to defend our great nation. We are indeed fortunate to call Sergeant Pitts a Granite Stater.
