Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing HB 1400, a measure establishing New Hampshire's presidential primary centennial anniversary commission and adding Millsfield to a certain election law:
"Our First In The Nation presidential primary is one of New Hampshire's most cherished traditions. Granite Staters are as engaged and well-informed on the issues as any citizens in the country, and our robust democracy makes us a perfect place to begin the presidential nominating process. Our primary is first because we were the first to truly recognize that direct citizen involvement in the nomination process makes for better presidential candidates -- and better presidents. It is critical that we protect this quintessential New Hampshire tradition, and I thank Speaker Norelli and the bipartisan group of legislators for establishing the New Hampshire presidential primary centennial anniversary commission to help us celebrate its 100th anniversary in the manner that will reflect its vibrant and critical role in our democracy."
