McCarthy: Take Time to Serve on National Youth Service Day

Date: April 11, 2005

"National Youth Service Day, the largest service event in the world, will be held on April 15 through 17. National Youth Service Day invites people to give something back to their community. Throughout the weekend people will be helping children learn to read, raising money for tsunami relief, building homes, promoting healthy activities, starting recycling program, and much more.

It is so important that we all contribute to making our neighborhood, community, country and world a better place each and every day. National Youth Service Day is a celebration of all the good we do andserves as a reminder of how much more work there is to do and how many of our neighbors need a helping hand.

A consortium of more than 115 nonprofit and corporate partners who organize thousands of projects each year across the world are participating in National Youth Service Day. The goals of their efforts are to mobilize youth to serve their communities, support a life-long path of service, educate the public about youth service, recognize the contributions of young people in our communities, and recruit a new generation of volunteers.

I encourage you and your family to participate in National Youth Service Day festivities. Please visit the National Youth Service Day web site at www.ysa.org/nysd to find a list of events near you."
