Issue Position: Still Work To Be Done

Issue Position

The state must ease the burden of mandates on local counties. In tough times, we all must tighten our belts and live within our means. But Albany can't kick the can down the road shifting the onerous impacts to local governments forcing cuts to vital services. We must do more to remove restrictions and allow our communities the opportunity to think smarter, spend wisely and work together.

Common Core is deeply flawed. We should not use our children as experiments. They deserve better from Albany. We must set high standards for education -- but the implementation of curriculum must be vetted by our teaching professionals, not a board of political appointees. Parents, educators and administrators must be heard -- not denied. Let's scrap Common Core in favor of a commonsense approach with even higher standards for our children.

Families need healthcare, affordable healthcare. Whether its standing up for seniors , eliminating fraud and abuse, or standing up against increased state assessments and fees that drive up costs, we must make every effort to make healthcare more affordable for all New Yorkers.
