Dennis Richardson Calls for Full Disclosure of Child Care Facilities Licensed with Medical Marijuana Provisions

Press Release

Date: July 14, 2014
Location: Portland, OR

State Representative and candidate for Governor Dennis Richardson spoke out against the state licensing provisions which allow child care professionals to use medical marijuana in daycare facilities.

"The Governor has a responsibility to make sure provisions like this don't slip through the cracks and put our children in danger. I'm stunned by this display of Kitzhaber's careless lack of oversight. As parents we cannot accept this kind of recklessness when it comes to our children's safety."

Furthermore, Kitzhaber and the Office of Child Care will not release the names or the number of child care facilities with similar provisions.

"Every parent has a right to protect their children from exposure to drugs. If our children are in harm's way because parents aren't made aware of a serious safety issue at their child care provider, it's time for someone to step in and make things right."

Richardson continued.

"I have issued a public records request for the full disclosure of which child care providers are licensed with provisions that allow marijuana use around children."

Dennis Richardson has spent his life championing causes and creating opportunities for individuals, families, and businesses. As an Army helicopter pilot and also as a representative in the state legislature, Dennis demonstrated his skills as a problem solver and consensus builder. Dennis, his wife Cathy, and their nine children are very active in their community and in the state of Oregon.
