Issue Position: Preparing Inmates to Re-Enter Society

Issue Position

Over 95% of the inmates in our prisons will be released back into our communities, and right now, an unacceptable percentage of them commit new, serious crimes within a few years of release and end up back in jail again. There are programs that have had great success in reducing the recidivism rate among inmates who are released back into the community, and I will work to expand our investment in these programs. Investing in re-entry programs for inmates may not be popular, but it is the right thing to do if we want to reduce violent crime and protect the public.
