Issue Position: Sensible Spending

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014

Demand efficiency and streamline state services.
Reduce the size of our big government.
Focus spending on the right priorities.

Minnesotans are dealing with tough economic times by scrutinizing every expense. We adjust our lifestyle and focus on the necessities. Minnesota government needs to take the same approach.
In recent years, our state budget has grown too much too fast. The rate of government growth we have experienced in the last decade is not sustainable and it slows down genuine, healthy economic growth. Today our government has reached a size we simply cannot afford, a size that eats away at our children's future.
Your next representative will affect the balance of a legislature challenged with a massive budget deficit. The current DFL majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives, is unfortunately owned by too many special interest groups, and so it has failed to address this crisis. Instead, they spend first, then they try to secure funding. Without a spending plan based on what we can afford, our crisis will only worsen.
I will advocate for the good of all Minnesota -- not pet projects or special interests -- by supporting only responsible spending. We must bring accountability to government and demand efficient use of taxpayer money. We must reduce the size of government with our state constitution guiding our priorities.
