Asm. Dahle Bill to Increase Election Transparency Signed into Law
AB 354 Gives Voters More Information about Local Ballot Measures
SACRAMENTO -- Voters will have more information about how local measures are placed on the ballot under Assembly Bill 354 by Assemblyman Brian Dahle (R-Bieber) which was signed into law on Monday by Governor Jerry Brown. AB 354 becomes the second measure authored by Asm. Dahle that Gov. Brown has signed this year.
AB 354 requires local initiatives to disclose how the measure qualified for the ballot -- whether that was by voter petitions or by being placed by the local government.
"Voters deserve to know who is behind the proposals they are asked to consider. I appreciate the Governor signing this important voter disclosure measure," said Assemblyman Dahle. "My original proposal also required the Legislature to disclose this same information. While I could not find consensus on that provision this year, I will continue my fight to ensure Californians have all the information they need when casting their vote."
AB 354 takes effect January 1, 2014.
