Udall Still Silent About Bloomberg

Senator Mark Udall's silence continues days after one of his biggest supporters made extremely offensive comments in a media interview. Former New York Mayor, billionaire Michael Bloomberg, who has a history of flooding Colorado's elections with his out of state money, was recently asked by The Rolling Stone about recent gun control legislation passed in Colorado last year. Bloomberg responded:

"In Colorado, we got a law passed. The NRA went after two or three state Senators in a part of Colorado where I don't think there's roads. It's as far rural as you can get. And, yes, they lost recall elections. I'm sorry for that. We tried to help "em. But the bottom line is, the law is on the books, and being enforced. You can get depressed about the progress, but on the other hand, you're saving a lot of lives."

The two state senators recalled were from Colorado Springs and Pueblo -- the second and ninth most populous cities in the state, respectively. A third state senator resigned rather than face a recall. She represented a large portion of Jefferson County, the fourth most populous in the state. In case Senator Udall hasn't visited in a while, each of these senators' districts contain roads and even have access to water and electricity.

"Senator Udall and his biggest supporters continue to show what they really think of Coloradans," Cory Gardner said. "Does Senator Udall agree with Michael Bloomberg? His continued silence is leaving Coloradans little room to believe otherwise. Instead of listening to his constituents, Senator Udall decided long ago that he prefers to rubber-stamp agendas from his out of state backers and the President -- Coloradans are seeing proof of this once again.

"The anti-gun laws passed in Colorado last year were not only bad policy, but also bad for our state -- few laws have caused such a bitter divide among our neighbors, families, and friends. But Coloradans should not be surprised that Senator Udall supports even more restrictive measures than what passed in our state, he has made clear that he much prefers dividing Coloradans instead of uniting them. I will continue to vigorously stand up for the Second Amendment, and look forward to listening to all of Colorado as I fight to bring a new generation of leadership to the Senate."

Mayor Bloomberg has personally contributed to Senator Udall's campaign and has poured millions into Senate Majority PAC, a Democratic front group that has spent millions attacking Cory this cycle. And it isn't just Senate Majority PAC: Senator Udall has also benefitted from attacks levied by the League of Conservation Voters, a notorious "dark money" group and his second-largest campaign contributor that is funded in part by Mayor Bloomberg. Planned Parenthood is yet another Bloomberg-funded Udall contributor that has attacked Cory during this campaign, despite the organization noting last spring that Cory "showed courage" with his vote in favor of the Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act.
