Mark Udall, who chairs the U.S. Senate National Parks Subcommittee and has championed Colorado's job-creating outdoor recreation economy, urged his colleagues today to support bipartisan legislation the U.S. Senate is considering this week that enhances access to our public lands and safeguards Colorado's special way of life.

The Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act includes Udall's Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act, which would give states greater flexibility to use funds collected on sporting equipment and ammunition to help create and maintain safe and accessible shooting ranges -- all without costing taxpayers a dime. The Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act also includes a provision to improve access to public lands in Colorado and throughout the country through the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

"Our sportsmen and outdoor recreation economy create jobs and support Colorado's special way of life and Western heritage. The Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act is essential to preserving our outdoor heritage and expanding opportunities for hunters and anglers," Udall said. "The U.S. Senate should swiftly pass this common-sense bill, which includes my bipartisan plan to create new, safe and well-managed areas where sportsmen can responsibly practice, promoting responsible gun use and hunting for future generations."

Udall has been a strong advocate for similar bipartisan sportsmen legislation. He has opposed selling off our public lands as part of any budget deal and has been a fierce proponent for fully funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund. He also has been a vocal advocate for Colorado's public lands and the jobs they create and he has fought for legislation to expand recreational opportunities for hunters and anglers.
