King Celebrates 4th of July

Statement

Date: July 4, 2014
Location: Bath, ME

U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) released the following statement in honor of the 4th of July. He will celebrate the holiday by marching in the 42nd Bath Heritage Days Independence Day Parade.

"Today, as communities across America come together to honor our great national holiday, we remember with tremendous pride those who braved enormous peril to conquer tyranny and create a new nation based upon the principle of freedom.

"And though our country was borne out of rebellion, we also remember that it survives through unity. Indeed, while we are all afforded the great gift of individual liberty, it takes a collective effort to defend the personal freedoms we hold dear. Every man and woman who has donned our country's uniform in defense of this nation has the undying gratitude of the American people. And as thousands continue to sacrifice to safeguard our freedoms, we give them our deepest thanks.

"So as we walk together today in Bath and as we gather with family, friends and loved ones, we don't just celebrate our independence, we renew our commitment to one another and to the ideas upon which our country was founded. Today is a wonderful chance to reflect on all that makes our country great and serves as a powerful reminder that, from sea to sea, we are never as good alone as we can be together."
