Rangel Says We Must Bring Back Hope For Israel

Press Release

Date: June 30, 2014
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) expressed his support for the State of Israel and the Jewish people in Israel, America, and around the world, in light of a recent finding regarding the abduction of three Israeli teens. The teens were found dead, the bodies disposed in a pit near the West Bank settlement where they went missing on the night of Thursday, June 12, 2014:

"My heart goes out to the parents of the three abducted children, Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach," Rangel commented. "These martyrs' parents are going through unspeakable pain, caused by terrorists who will break all moral boundaries to make a point against the State of Israel and its people. Murdering innocent children is an unspeakable crime. In this troubling time, I stand with Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu to ensure that as many sides as possible are involved to guarantee Israel's security and bring justice to the perpetrators of this terrible crime. We must continue to bring back hope to our vital ally, Israel."

The Israeli Defense Force's 18-day sweep of the West Bank ended with the discovery of the three teens' bodies. The youths were kidnapped and then left in a trench near the town of Halhul on the West Bank of Israel. It is widely thought that the kidnappers intended to trade the teenagers in exchange for terrorists currently held by the Israeli government for terrorist-related crimes. The Israeli security cabinet held an emergency meeting following the discovery to discuss the actions the Israeli government will take in response to this news. The public is now waiting for a response from Benjamin Netanyahu and the Cabinet.

Rangel will be joining other leaders at a community-wide memorial service to mourn this terrible tragedy at The Jewish Center on 86th Street this Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
