Blog: Matthew Hess Earns Libertarian Nomination

Statement

Date: March 30, 2014

I am honored to announce that I have earned the nomination of the Libertarian Party of Colorado by unanimous vote for the 2014 gubernatorial race. This marks a significant milestone in my campaign which brings me closer to the Governors office and closer to restoring common sense within this office.

For too long Colorado has been subjected to the whims of a partisan power struggle between major parties. Rights have been trampled, small businesses have suffered, and the people have been oppressed during this struggle. The People of Colorado have a tangible chance to restore balance and Liberty to state government once again.

The Governor should operate as a check upon the other branches of government but, sadly, this has not been the case. The Office of Governor has become nothing more than a rubber stamp to an out of control legislature. My election will change that.

I ask the People of Colorado to not allow this opportunity to slip through their fingers. Do not succumb to the fear peddling and doubt spread by those in power who fear the loss of control and influence over your lives. You have the ability to retake the reins of your destiny.

I have a simple plan when in office; I will do what I say. It is a testament to the sad state of politics that this is such a novel concept. When we consider how the verbiage of the major parties differs drastically from their actions in office it is easy to see why at least a third of our state chooses to not affiliate with any political party.

Only when we stop basing our support upon the chances of success does success become possible. It is time to vote for principle once more instead of simply hoping for a benevolent government. We can and we will take back our state!
