U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), the senior Republican on the Senate health committee, today released the following statement on two new reports by the Inspector General of the Department of Health and Human Services that found major systemic problems with verification of eligibility for the Obamacare subsidies:
"This report tells us that the administration was more concerned with appearances than getting anything in Obamacare done right. They've allowed millions of Americans to enroll in a system that may be handing them the wrong subsidies--too much or too little--and they've left taxpayers vulnerable to fraud."
"Republicans want to repair the damage Obamacare has done and prevent future damage," he added. "As responsibly and rapidly as we can, we want to move in a different direction to put in place proposals that provide more freedom, more choices and lower costs. We trust Americans to make these decisions for ourselves. That is the American Way."
