Incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Columbus, easily defeated a primary challenge from fellow Republican Charles Chope, of Upper Arlington.

Although final results weren't in by press time, Stivers had 90 percent of the vote with a significant portion or precints reporting. Stivers will face Democrat Scott Wharton, of Amanda, in the November general election. Wharton ran without opposition in the Democratic primary.

A Republican challenge to current Ohio senator and former state Rep. Tim Schaffer, of Lancaster, coming from Ned Basinger, of Pickerington, was unsuccessful.

The two were running for the Ohio House district seat held by Gerald Stebelton, R-Lancaster. The 77th Ohio House District includes the central and northern part of Fairfield County. Schaffer pulled in 87 percent of the vote.

Schaffer has been in the Ohio Senate since 2007. His senate district was eliminated as part of the realignment of districts after the 2010 census. Stebelton can't run for re-election in 2014 because of term limits.

In November, Schaffer will face former Lancaster school board member Hollie Saunders, of Lancaster, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
