Issue Position: Providing Middle-Class Tax Relief

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2014
Issues: Taxes

A strong middle class is the foundation of a strong economy, and providing relief to our hardworking families helps to strengthen the middle class.

I believe we can find a way to reform our tax code that helps reduce the deficit, provides relief for middle class families, and creates jobs in Central New York. We need to focus on ending tax breaks for the ultra-rich, oil and gas companies, and corporations that ship jobs overseas, and instead shift tax breaks to middle class families.

I believe we must lower taxes on small businesses -- the engine of economic growth in Central New York and across the country -- making it easier for individuals to start and grow a small business. I've introduced common-sense legislation to assist individuals starting a small business by establishing tax-free investment accounts to help people save. Last year, I also introduced a bill called the "Cutting Red Tape, Green Lighting Small Business Act" to provide incentives for small businesses to hire new employees by instituting a one-year payroll tax credit.
