Issue Position: LGBTQ Equality

Issue Position

Cyndi has been proudly working in her community to promote and protect equality for many years. Cyndi has instilled in her children the value of respecting and accepting all people. She and her family have been avid supporters of the LGBTQ community; long before two of her own children came out. As an educator, Cyndi has served as a continual support system for her gay students. She also sings in One Voice Chorus - a premiere LGBT ensemble which sings at many community events.

Cyndi truly believes the struggle for LGBTQ equality is the civil rights movement of our time. She applauds grassroots efforts, like the One Royal Oak campaign, for ensuring their neighborhoods are welcoming to diversity. She also commends the U.S. Congress for the strides they have made to rollback discrimination in our country. Despite these bold efforts, Cyndi recognizes there is more work to be done.

She firmly believes no one should be discriminated against because of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. Discrimination in any form violates core American values of fairness and equality. As the 13th District's Senator, Cyndi will fight alongside the people of Michigan to make sure every voice is not only heard, but also recognized.
