House Passes Lujan Grisham's Amy Biehl High School Legislation

Press Release

Date: June 17, 2014
Issues: K-12 Education

I would like to thank my colleagues for passing this legislation that will allow the the Amy Biehl High School Foundation to purchase the Old Post Office at 4th and Gold SW from the General Services Administration, allowing Amy Biehl High School to give students a first-rate education and preserve this historic building. The Amy Biehl High Foundation has already invested more than $3 million to renovate and restore the building. Selling the building to the high school would provide the school with more flexibility, open the door to capital campaigns and create a permanent home for the school.

Statement from Mike May, Amy Biehl High School Executive Director:

"Both Amy Biehl High School and the Amy Biehl High School Foundation are thrilled that the US House of Representatives has supported legislation to obtain ownership of our historic home, the Old Federal Court House and Post Office in the heart of downtown Albuquerque. A heartfelt thanks to Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham for spearheading this legislation. Thanks to these efforts, ABHS' commitment to scholarship and community will continue to enrich the lives of students and adults in Albuquerque's urban core for years to come."
