Agriculture and tourism are large economic drivers in our state, and both depend on the quality of our environment. According to the United Health Foundation, South Carolina was 38th in air quality in 2012. The Natural Resources Defense Council ranked South Carolina as 26th of 30 states in beach water quality. A recent study published in 2013 found that 57.2% of people in South Carolina living below the federal poverty line are located in Superfund host census tracts. All South Carolinians deserve clean air, water, and soil. As your Attorney General, I will fight to make sure environmental laws are enforced, and that every citizen of this state enjoys the right to live free of the dangers of pollution.
