Issue Position: VOTING RIGHTS

Date: Jan. 1, 2014
Issues: Elections

Voting is a fundamental right of every American citizen. Recent measures passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor have attempted to reduce meaningful access to the polls, and therefore undermine the voting rights of thousands of our citizens. To make matters worse, taxpayers have been forced to pay approximately $3.5 million in legal fees of lawyers retained to defend these bad policies. Most of these fees, approximately $3.4 million, went to a private law firm. As your Attorney General, I will not defend any law that undermines the voting rights of individuals, and I will not spend your money to hire lawyers to defend these policies either.
