Issue Position: Economic Justice

Issue Position

Economic Justice
* Creating multiple opportunities for all people to work towards economic prosperity
* Leveling the playing field so that average workers can achieve economic security

We have a responsibility to pass legislation and provide programs which focuses on ways to help the middle class grow. To reach this goal, we need to attack the problem from the top and the bottom as well. We need to put in place regulations, programs and incentives to help people remain employed and become financially literate.

To improve economic justice in this country, we must grow the middle class. To do that we need to consider the following tactics:

* Tax the rich (1%) at the same level as other Americans;
* Introduce a flat tax for all taxpayers;
* Move a large quantity of people off our welfare programs;
* Provide stimulus programs to increase the number of small and medium sized entrepreneur businesses;
* Create high tech manufacturing jobs;
* Implement a greed tax on those large corporations which leave the majority of their full time employees in poverty due to their very poor wages;
* Pass the Equal Pay Act;
* Offer financial literacy programs to the general public;
* Offer savings program incentives with a focus on financial literacy;
* Address the New Jim Crowe. African American men are being jailed at a disproportionate; number r than other races. Families need both parents in the home. African Americans cannot prosper with so many of their fathers are in jail;
* Create incentives to encourage our foreign graduate students to stay in our country and give back to our economic development. Tap in to all of the knowledge they acquired here as they studied science, technology, engineering and math. We should not let these very important skills go back to other countries;
* Offer career re-training programs;
* Provide training programs for our veterans. These men and women have put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe. When they finish their military commitment, they should be given an immediate opportunity to train for a career which will offer them a decent salary. Get our veterans back in the workforce ASAP;
* Implement banking regulations which protect the needs of the people. The banking crisis of 2008 was deliberate and criminal. People should never lose their saving while the bankers made millions and millions of money. This is criminal behavior.

This country was started on the principles of fairness and justice. We must return to their guiding principles and to ensure reasonable opportunities for people to make an honest living. We can no longer sit back and allow big companies and their shareholders take all of the profit as the cost of the quality of life for the individual and his/her family. If we do not make a concerted effort to move people out of poverty, we will bankrupt the economics and the morality of this great nation.
