House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the Justice Department's report on the implementation of the United States v. Windsor Supreme Court decision:
"Today's report by the Justice Department further demonstrates the Obama Administration's commitment to advancing equality for same-sex spouses and their families. At the same time, the announcement by the Labor Department that married same-sex couples across the country will have access to the same Family and Medical Leave Act benefits as opposite-sex couples is a historic and important step forward for LGBT equality. While these are critical steps, there is more work to be done to ensure that LGBT families achieve full equality.
"I will continue to advocate for the complete equality of LGBT Americans and their families, including the full recognition of same-sex marriage throughout our country and an end to discrimination in the workplace and in our schools. I hope that, as more Americans bear witness to the love and commitment same-sex spouses have for each other and for the children they are raising together, more states will break down barriers to equal marriage."
