Walsh: Federal Government Has No Right to Spy on Americans

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Senator John Walsh issued the following statement as the FISA Court authorized the Obama administration's request for an extension of the National Security Agency programs that access Americans' phone data:

"The Federal Government does not have the right to spy on American citizens and we deserve more transparency from the Obama Administration."

Walsh introduced the Civil Liberties Protection Act in March to end programs administered by both the NSA and FBI that bypass due process to track U.S. citizens' personal data. Walsh this week introduced the American Digital Security and Commerce Act to strengthen online privacy and prevent government agencies, such as the NSA and FBI, from ignoring online security protections.
