Bilirakis: Delays in Care are Unacceptable

Representative Gus Bilirakis, Vice-Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs participated in a hearing last night with officials from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), Inspector General's office (IG), and the VA.

"The wait times Veterans are forced to deal with are beyond unacceptable. It is an outrage," said Bilirakis. "These brave women and men served courageously and some suffered mental and physical wounds for the freedoms we all enjoy every day. They deserve proper care for that sacrifice," Bilirakis said. "I coauthored a letter with Congressman Jolly, urging the Secretary of VA to use his current authority to provide Veterans with alternative access to care. The VA needs to do whatever it can -- including seriously considering GAO recommendations -- to make sure these women and men get timely access to quality care.
