Congressman John F. Tierney today released the below statement following the resignation of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki:
"I respect and agree with President Obama's decision to accept the resignation of Secretary Shinseki, though I thank Secretary Shinseki for his lifelong service to our servicemembers and veterans. Clearly, the delays and misconduct that were detailed in the VA Inspector General's interim report earlier this week are outrageous and reprehensible. It is important that Congress and the new VA Leadership work quickly and responsibly to address the systemic problems within the VA and its medical facilities and ensure full accountability. That's where my focus will remain in the days and weeks ahead. It is imperative that our veterans receive the quality care and treatment they deserve and have earned."
