Issue Position: Priority #1: Better Economic Opportunity Here at Home

Issue Position

DeGette's Failed Legacy

Colorado's child poverty rate has doubled in the last ten years

Adjusted for inflation, the average Denver family is still worse off today

Martin's Vision:
Denver residents deserve better access to the American Dream. What does this dream look like for Colorado families? By encountering real opportunity and working hard, we can make a better life. We can give our children a better life than we have had.

Ronald Reagan said in 1976: ""No one who lived through the Great Depression can ever look upon an unemployed person with anything but compassion. To me, there is no greater tragedy than a breadwinner willing to work, with a job skill but unable to find a market for that job skill."

Denver residents deserve a fair shot at creating a better life for themselves and their families. Martin will work on behalf of Denver families to help restore access to the American Dream.

Republican, Democrat or Independent, we can all agree that our economy is not where it should be. Washington has gone down the wrong track since the recession. Our leaders have failed to help us get back on our feet.

The people of Colorado, through their hard work and creativity, are the source of economic growth and prosperity--the government is not. Coloradans from all walks of life are still struggling with the devastation of the 2008 recession. While our economy is slowly improving, it is not improving fast enough. Our elected leaders have had five years to create a meaningful jobs recovery. They have failed.

To get our economy back, we need to unleash the energy and ingenuity of the private sector. Small and medium size businesses must lead the way. The improving health of entrepreneurs and small business owners will boost job creation and opportunity. We must encourage small businesses in Colorado to thrive through lower taxes, less government regulation and greater transparency.
