Dear Mr. President:
On behalf of the State of Alabama, we are writing to support Governor Robert Bentley's request for an expedited major disaster declaration pursuant to the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief Act as a result of the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flash flooding that struck Alabama beginning on April 28, 2014.
The Governor requests Individual Public Assistance for Baldwin, Jefferson, Lee, and Limestone Counties. He also requests Public Assistance (all categories) including direct federal assistance for Baldwin, Jefferson, Lee, Limestone, and Mobile counties, as well as Hazard Mitigation statewide.
We wrote in support of the Governor's April 29, 2014 Declaration for the State of Alabama, and we urge you to consider the State's supplemental and amended request. As we noted in our letter on April 30, 2014, these storms have caused serious and widespread losses to residents, businesses, and infrastructure in communities across the State.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency has been working closely and effectively with the Federal Emergency Management Agency since the beginning of this incident, and we continue to be grateful for their combined efforts in responding to the affected communities' needs. We thank you for your prompt attention to this request, and our offices stand ready to provide you with any additional information that you require.
Sincerely,
Senator Richard Shelby
Senator Jeff Sessions
Congressman Spencer Bachus
Congressman Robert Aderholt
Congressman Mike Rogers
Congressman Mo Brooks
Congresswoman Martha Roby
Congresswoman Terri Sewell
Congressman Bradley Byrne
