This week, Congressman John Culberson (TX-07) and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced a bill that would make it a crime for an IRS employee to single out a person or an organization for special scrutiny because of their political beliefs. H.R. 4957 makes it a federal crime--punishable by up to ten years in prison--for an employee of the IRS to single out an individual or an organization for purposes of political harassment or intimidation. This is a major step toward reining in an out-of-control Obama Administration.

"The American people deserve accountability and honesty from our government, not selective harassment at the hands of the federal bureaucracy. When this bill becomes law, IRS officials who abuse their power will go to prison. No one is above the law and there is no excuse for overreach and intimidation by any individual or agency," Culberson said.

Senator Cruz echoed Culberson's comments, saying: "We should all agree the IRS should not be used as a tool for partisan warfare and I commend Congressman Culberson for taking on this issue in the House. The IRS has no business meddling with the First Amendment rights of Americans or targeting them based on their political beliefs, and I remain committed to holding President Obama's Department of Justice accountable for providing the American people with all the facts surrounding the IRS's illegal targeting of organizations based on their political activity."
