Location: Washington, DC

House Resolution 573, introduced by Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24), passed the U.S. House of Representatives Tuesday evening. The resolution condemns the recent kidnapping of more than 200 girls from a high school in Nigeria by extremist terrorist group, Boko Haram. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement:

"Passage of my resolution puts the U.S. House of Representatives firmly on record condemning Boko Haram's history of violent attacks on civilian targets in Nigeria, and the abduction of hundreds of Nigerian school girls," said Congresswoman Wilson.

"We must do everything within our power to end this nightmare for these precious young girls and ensure their safe return to their families. I sincerely thank President Obama for sending troops to Chad to assist in the effort to locate and bring back the girls.

"In these girls, I see our daughters, our sisters, our nieces. I see their hopes and their dreams. These girls are strong, determined, courageous, and understand the value of an education. Women and girls around the world have the right to be to be free, and should not be forced to risk their lives to get the education they want and deserve.

"I add my voice to that of my Nigerian constituents, Congress, the international community, and to the voices of the chorus heard around the world: Bring back our girls."
