Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La., announced today that the Air Force has recommended to the Secretary of Defense that a four-star general lead the Global Strike Nuclear Command at Barksdale Air Force base. In 2009, Sen. Landrieu led the Louisiana delegation's effort to locate the Global Strike Command at Barksdale Air Force base.

"The recommendation that the Global Strike Command at Barksdale should be led by a four-star general demonstrates the important mission that the Command continues to play in our nation's security. With a four-star general leading the Global Strike Command, it also provides the base a stronger voice to advocate for its mission and the troops and their families that call Barksdale home," Sen. Landrieu said. "The Air Force clearly recognizes that that Barksdale is one of the most critical assets that the country has today, and I will lead our delegation's efforts to ensure that Congress approves this recommendation as soon as possible."
