Senator Toomey Continues to Look for Ways to Help American Steel

Statement

Date: June 2, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following comment regarding the news that United States Steel Corporation will indefinitely idle the tubular manufacturing facilities in McKeesport, Pa.

"I am very disappointed to learn about the McKeesport plant idling that could cost 200 Pennsylvanians their jobs.

"As the vice-chairman of the Senate Steel Caucus, I am always looking for ways to help America's steel industry remain healthy and competitive. Specifically, I am concerned about allegations of foreign companies breaking the law and threatening Pennsylvania jobs by selling steel products in the United States below their cost of production. In May, I urged Commerce Secretary Pritzker to do everything in her power to curtail imports that are found to be illegal.

"My office stands ready to help any worker who is affected by this idling. I will continue fighting for pro-growth, common-sense policies to create jobs and allow Pennsylvania's manufacturers to thrive."
