U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced that the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company #2 will receive $21,375 in federal funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. In total, 123 organizations in the 2nd Congressional district have been awarded more than $22 million since the program began in 2001.
"Day in and day out, the men and women of our fire and rescue units are the first responders to emergency events in our communities," said LoBiondo, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. "These are challenging economic times and our first responders are being asked to do more with less. Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company #2 has previously demonstrated its wise use of federal funds to protect the residents of Egg Harbor Township. I recognize the need for this assistance and will continue to support critical programs like AFG."
Today's AFG award is the sixth for the Bargaintown Volunteer Fire Company #2. Previous awards for the Egg Harbor Township-based first responders were $44,820 (2004), $43,368 (2006), $64,273 (2007), $74,860 (2010), and $88,350 (2011)
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. The Fiscal Year 2014 program will award approximately $340 million in competitive grants to first responder organizations across the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
