U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) today announced a $23,513 federal award from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program to the Tuckerton Fire Company #1. In total, 123 organizations in the 2nd Congressional district have been awarded more than $22 million since the program began in 2001.
"This is great news for the men and women of the Tuckerton Fire Company #1 and the community they protect day in and day out," said LoBiondo, a member of the Congressional Fire Caucus. "Given tight budgets at many of our municipalities, the AFG program remains a critical resource for our local first responders and an important program I am proud to support."
The Tuckerton Fire Company #1 previously received an AFG award in the amount of $68,000 in February 2013.
"Any grant, any funds able to be obtained for our volunteer fire company is outstanding for Tuckerton Borough," said Tuckerton Borough Mayor George "Buck" Evans. "Those men and women do every which way possible to raise fund to ensure the proper equipment to keep our community safe. This is great news to hear."
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awards grants directly to fire departments and emergency services to support their efforts to protect the communities they serve. The Fiscal Year 2014 program will award approximately $340 million in competitive grants to first responder organizations across the country to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources required to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
