U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today was named a "Guardian of Seniors' Rights" by the national non-partisan 60 Plus Association for his strong voting record on behalf of seniors and their families and was given their "Benjamin Franklin Award" for his work to repeal the death tax.

"I am honored to receive this recognition. Our work to permanently repeal the death tax goes on. Farmers, ranchers, small business owners and Kansans from all walks of life ought to be able to keep more of the dollars they earn and this income should definitely not be taxed twice with the death tax," Roberts said. "Many seniors are living within a strict budget. I will continue to fight to ensure the federal government does too."

Music legend Pat Boone, the national spokesperson for the 60 Plus Association, said, "I'm still singing at concerts, but today I am singing the praises of Pat Roberts. Seniors can depend on Pat Roberts."

Chairman Jim Martin, who founded 60 Plus in 1992 added, "Pat Roberts can be counted on to protect Social Security and Medicare, fight for the repeal of Obamacare and end the death tax. Senator Roberts will continue to honor his promise of defending the pocketbooks of senior citizens and ending the wasteful spending of our tax dollars which has our government borrowing over 40 cents of every dollar to pay its bills. He understands that seniors have to live within their means, and so should government."

Martin went on to say, "Pat Roberts is a trusted public servant who has earned the heartfelt support of Kansas seniors through his commitment to the issues that matter most to the elderly and their families. He understands that to make our nation truly great, we have to return to the founding principles of free-markets, limited government and individual liberty. Senator Roberts is that rare public servant that leads through action, rolling up his sleeves every day in Washington to build a better future for our children and grandchildren."

Founded in 1992, the 60 Plus Association is a non-partisan seniors advocacy group with a free enterprise, less government, less taxes approach to seniors issues. 60 Plus has set ending the federal estate tax and saving Social Security for the young as its top priorities.

Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Committee on Finance which has jurisdiction on Social Security, Medicare and Taxes.
