The Honorable Eric Shinseki
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
810 Vermont Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20420-0001
Dear Secretary Shinseki:
We understand that you recently announced a "face-to-face" audit of all Department of Veterans Affairs clinics. The recent allegations related to delayed care and inaccurate reporting of wait times in Phoenix, AZ, and other locations, make it all the more imperative that the VA conduct this audit without delay to ensure our veterans receive the care they have earned and deserve in a timely manner.
We respectfully request full details of this audit, and specifically would like more details regarding the scope of the audit of the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, when the audit will begin, an estimate of how long it will take to complete, and a copy of the final results within 14 days of completion.
We also understand that the Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General has been reviewing allegations of the destruction of medical files at the Greater Los Angeles Medical Center and are eager to discuss with you the findings of the review as soon as it becomes available.
We know you share our commitment to providing the best care for our nation's veterans and are pleased that you recognize that a system-wide audit of appointment scheduling and consult scheduling practices is essential to this commitment being fulfilled.
We look forward to your response as soon as possible.
