Rep. Graves Votes To Establish Benghazi Select Committee

Press Release

Date: May 8, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) and the U.S. House approved a resolution to establish a select committee to investigate the September 11, 2012, terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Senate action and the president's signature are not required, and the committee will soon be formed under the announced chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy, a former prosecutor from South Carolina.

"The Obama Administration's response to the tragic loss of four Americans, including the first U.S. ambassador to be killed in office since 1979, has left Americans in search of the truth and justice," said Rep. Graves. "Instead of the sober and clear eyed leadership we expect in response to a coordinated terrorist attack on the United States, the Administration repeatedly used a false storyline about a spontaneous riot. Ever since, it has taken hearings and dogged inquires--even a Freedom of Information Act request--to pry information from the White House. After nearly 20 months, it's long past time for the answers and accountability that this bipartisan select committee will provide."

Rep. Graves was a cosponsor of the original resolution to establish a select committee on Benghazi.
