U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement today after accusations from the Venezuelan Interior Minister. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
"It is a badge of honor for me and my husband, Dexter, to be singled out by the Maduro regime for our unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom and democracy for the people of Venezuela. These constant paranoid controversies and accusations launched by the Venezuelan regime against the United States and now my husband are simply not true but it is not surprising that Maduro, like Castro, continues to try to blame others for his own failures.
"If Maduro is worried about foreign influence, why doesn't he expel all the Cuban military and intelligence members helping his regime and the "colectivos' commit human rights violations against the people of Venezuela? The reality is that today's announcement from the Venezuelan Interior Minister is simply another attempt by Maduro to deviate attention from human rights abuses, media censorship, high inflation, food shortages, and economic shortcomings for which his regime is responsible."
