Black Statement on Benghazi Select Committee

Statement

Date: May 8, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06) voted in support of a bipartisan House resolution establishing a select committee to investigate the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. Congressman Black issued the following statement upon passage of the resolution:

"Four brave Americans were killed in a terrorist attack on that sad night in September of 2012, and 20 months later the Administration continues to stonewall and mislead about how this terrible event unfolded," said Congressman Black. "I commend the Speaker for moving forward with this select committee so that Congress can finally get answers for the American people and the families of the victims of this attack. Americans deserve the truth and it is outrageous that this Administration shamelessly continues to evade our Congressional investigations by not disclosing the documents that our Committees have requested. I am glad that Congressman Trey Gowdy has been selected to lead this important Committee, as his experience as a tenacious prosecutor will help him follow the facts -- wherever they may lead. We need answers as to how this attack happened and who in the White House is responsible for misleading the American people."
