Rep. John Mica (FL-07), at House Oversight hearing on the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), revealed rampant employee misconduct and a conflict between the Inspector General's office and EPA leadership. Mica said, "It sounds like the EPA is operating a three-ring-circus. We've got EPA staff who have broken the law, EPA employees that aren't working and getting paid and a $120,000 a year senior EPA official who is watching porno for 2-6 hours a day since 2010. What's incredible for taxpayers is that they are still on the payroll."
The hearing also uncovered that EPA leadership was involved in the obstruction of the Inspector General's efforts.
"EPA has provided a merry-go-round for some of its staff to rip off the taxpayers, and we can't get rid of them," Mica said. "Something needs to change. This is so offensive it's unbelievable. We need a way to fire these individuals. I have offered to work with Members of Congress in a bipartisan effort to change the civil service laws to provide the federal government with the ability to address these abuses."
