Today, Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on a House Select Committee on Benghazi:
"Congress and the American people have been denied answers surrounding the terrorist attack on our Special Mission in Benghazi that resulted in the loss of four brave Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. The Administration has continually attempted to obstruct the investigations into what led to the attack on September 11, 2012 in Benghazi, prioritizing spin and political interest above the truth. Nearly two years later, no one has been held accountable for denying repeated requests for additional security at the facility or for the U.S. military's inability to promptly respond and attempt to rescue our personnel. A Select Committee will build on the extensive work of the standing committees which have diligently investigated the situation on the ground before, during, and after the event, as well as the extent of the Administration's efforts to conceal the truth from the American people. We must get to the truth for the American people and especially for the families of the victims of the attack in order to ensure that such a tragic incident never happens again."
