Gov. Heineman Appoints Douglas County Court Judge for Fourth Judicial District

Gov. Dave Heineman today announced the appointment of Craig Q. McDermott of Omaha to Douglas County Court in the Fourth Judicial District.

"While the private sector may have lost a highly regarded lawyer, Douglas County and its citizens have gained a valuable resource in Mr. McDermott," Gov. Heineman said. "I am confident he will be an excellent addition to our judiciary."

McDermott has worked as a private sole practitioner of law in Omaha since March 2004. Before that, he had worked as in-house counsel at General Service Bureau, Inc. in Omaha, and as a partner at Moore, Boler & McDermott.

He has practiced in Nebraska for his entire 21-year legal career, focusing his general practice on consumer, commercial, contract and collection law. His experience also includes real estate, bankruptcy and misdemeanor criminal cases.

He is a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association, the Omaha Bar Association and has served on several committees confronting issues facing Douglas County Court and seeking efficiencies for the court system, citing his own caseload, numbered in the thousands.

McDermott, 46, graduated from Creighton University as an undergraduate in 1980 and from its School of Law in 1983.
