Pitts Introduces Resolution Supporting Moldova's Territorial Integrity

Press Release

Date: May 1, 2014
Issues: Foreign Affairs

Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16), Republican co-chair of the Congressional Moldova Caucus introduced a resolution expressing the sense of the House that the U.S. should enhance its relationship with Moldova and work to preserve its territorial integrity. The bipartisan resolution calls on the House to support Moldova at a time when the country is under increased pressure from Russia.

"Moldova finds itself in a very similar situation to their neighbors in Ukraine," said Pitts. "Russian actions in the Transnistria region are undermining the sovereignty of a democratic republic and friend of the United States. It's time for the House to demonstrate clear support for Moldova."

The resolution is cosponsored by the Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY); co-chair of the caucus, Rep. David Price (D-NC); and the Ranking Member of the Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, Rep. William Keating (D-MA).
