Barrow Comments on Medicare Advantage Announcement from CMS

U.S. Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) today commented on the announcement that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) had decided to withdraw drastic cuts that CMS had proposed to make to the Medicare Advantage (MA) program. The Obama Administration proposed cutting Medicare Advantage by 5.9 percent, which would have reduced benefits, and increased premiums by $35 to $75 per month, for MA beneficiaries.

"Today, CMS decided to cancel dramatic cuts to the Medicare Advantage program for more than 15 million seniors nationwide, including over 300,000 in the State of Georgia," said Congressman Barrow. " hanks to the broad, bipartisan coalition of over 200 House members that joined me last month in urging CMS to reconsider their proposed cuts, seniors in the 12th District will not be losing benefits they've come to rely on. But we aren't finished. Next year, CMS may try to cut Medicare Advantage benefits again, and that could jeopardize health care for seniors. I'll continue to work with my colleagues -- both Republicans and Democrats -- to ensure those cuts to not go into effect."
