Press Release

Date: April 21, 2014

Today, Governor Rick Scott met with families from the Jacksonville area and Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Nikolai Vitti at the Duval County Public School District Office to discuss tuition and college affordability.

Governor Scott said, "Florida parents and students cannot afford to see tuition at Florida schools continue to climb. It's too high. We need to find a way to keep college affordable for all Floridians. One of my top priorities is to create jobs and opportunities for Florida Families. That starts with a great education at an affordable to our students and families. "

"The ability to pay for college should not be a barrier for students who have worked diligently toward their goals to attend a college or university," said Superintendent Dr. Nikolai P. Vitti. "I appreciate Governor Scott recognizing Duval County's commitment to creating a college-going culture. His discussion with parents and students demonstrated that culture, and the challenges families face with college affordability."
