Issue Position: Promote a Strong National Defense

Issue Position

Issues: Defense Veterans

While no one is a stronger advocate for a small federal government than me, I believe a well-funded defense is a must. Rebuilding our defense after years of neglect under this President will take time. But, if America wants to ensure her security and world leadership role, it is a must. We simply must have a national defense adequate to protecting America's national interests.

Just because the White House has largely abdicated its foreign policy leadership role doesn't mean Congress should do the same. While foreign policy largely resides with the Presidency, Congress should not ignore foreign threats, particularly from Iran and North Korea.

I do not believe America should seek out conflict. Military intervention should only be used when America's national interests are at stake. But, leadership and sound policy does mean adequately funding our military, ensuring clear pronouncements of foreign policy and national interests, and protecting the homeland.

Finally, I believe America has an obligation to treat her veterans with honor and dignity. I will do my level best to ensure they receive quality health care and all the benefits they deserve for their service to our country.
